Happy Birthday Alex (Our collaborating teacher in Brazil)
This week we reviewed many different types of figurative language including idioms. We talked about why authors use them in their writing. We also talked about how idioms are very unique to the culture they are from and are often confusing to non-native speakers or people from different regions. So, to end our unit, we decided to "kill two birds with one stone." We wanted to make a video that showed a popular idiom to share with the students in Brazil who are studying English and we wanted to wish Alex a happy birthday or Feliz Aniversário!!! Since the Brazilian students have just returned from their long and hot (especially in Teresina) summer break, we chose an idiom that relates to the end of summer. In the US students are usually not excited to return to school and we're assuming it's the same for the Brazilian students. But, we hope they are excited to return to school so they can collaborate with us and share with us some of the videos they have made :). Hope you enjoy!

People always complain about the hot wheather here in Teresina, especially in the end of the year. Thank you for the surprise in the end. That was an amazing birthday gift!
